As seen on a Starbucks cup
Several years ago, I read the following quote on a Starbucks cup:
"The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating – in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life."
Perhaps it was the irony of the quote that made me take notice--that the way to freedom is through commitment. Having been in Bend for just over six months now, I’m feeling committed by default of being here that long, but not so committed because I’m in a furnished rental, ready to hit the road at the next strong urge of wanderlust. However, I’ve recently wanted to become committed by choice, to put down roots, to have a home base, and to have a real home.
So I am.
